Sport Pilot

The Sport Pilot certificate is a simple and cost-effective way to begin your flying journey. With fewer requirements than a Private Pilot certificate, it’s an excellent option for those who want to fly light sport aircraft for recreation or local travel. You can train with no FAA medical exam required and reach certification in less time, making it easier to get in the air sooner.

Medical Use your driver license
Training Requires a minimum of 20 hours total. Including 15 hours of instruction with a CFI, 5 hours of solo flight.
Cost/Hour Rental Rate (wet): $175
Instruction Rate: $60
Outcome: Fly with 1 passenger, not for compensation or hire.

Private Pilot

The Private Pilot certificate is the most common starting point for those looking to fully experience the freedom of flight. It allows you to fly a wider range of aircraft and travel greater distances for personal or recreational purposes. Throughout training, you’ll develop a strong foundation in aircraft control, navigation, and decision-making while gaining the confidence to plan and complete flights independently.

Medical You must hold at least a 3rd class FAA medical.
Training Requires a minimum of 40 hours total. Including 20 hours of instruction with a CFI, 10 hours of solo flight.
Cost/Hour Rental Rate (wet): $175
Instruction Rate: $60
Outcome: Fly with more passengers, not for compensation or hire

Commercial Pilot

The Commercial Pilot certificate is the next step for pilots looking to turn flying into a career. It qualifies you to fly for compensation or hire while refining your skills through more advanced training. You’ll develop greater precision, deepen your understanding of aircraft systems and operations, and build the experience needed for professional aviation roles. It’s a key milestone for those pursuing opportunities in the aviation industry. While there are no minimum training requirements for the commercial checkride, most students need 15-25 hours of instruction.

Medical You must hold at least a 2nd class FAA medical.
Experience You must hold at least a Private Pilot Certificate and have accumulated 250 hours of flight experience.
Cost/Hour Rental Rate (wet): $175
Instruction Rate: $60
Outcome: Fly commercially for compensation or hire.

Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)

The Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certificate allows you to teach others how to fly while continuing to build your own experience. As a CFI, you’ll refine your knowledge by instructing students in both ground and flight training, developing strong communication and decision-making skills along the way. It’s one of the most rewarding paths in aviation, giving you the opportunity to mentor new pilots while advancing toward your own career goals.

Flight Reviews

A Flight Review is a periodic evaluation of a pilot's aeronautical knowledge and flying skills. While your pilot certificate does not expire, pilots must meet certain requirements every 24 calendar months to continue acting as Pilot in Command (PIC).

The most common way to meet this requirement is by completing a Flight Review with a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI). A Flight Review is not a pass/fail checkride, but rather an opportunity to evaluate proficiency, review regulations and procedures, and improve overall safety and confidence in the cockpit.

Requirement Every 24 calendar months
Training Minimum of 1 hour of ground instruction and 1 hour of flight instruction with a CFI. Additional training may be provided as needed based on proficiency.
Structure A review of the current general operating and flight rules of 14 CFR Part 91. A review of maneuvers and procedures necessary for the pilot to safely exercise the privileges of their pilot certificate.
